Guangzhou Design Triennial 2024
16.1.2024 – 31.5.2024
This exhibition is part of the Guangzhou Design Triennial 2024, under the theme of The Warm Beings. It is showcased in Section IV: Design: Existing · Living · Being, which explores how design touches upon the essential aspects of life, survival, and human experience.
The works presented in this section challenge conventional perceptions of design. They not only address the practical aspects of existence but also reflect the deeper, philosophical dimensions of life and its connection to nature. Through these pieces, we are invited to reflect on the role of design in shaping the world around us and how it can evoke new understandings of existence, life, and human values.
The exhibition features a range of works by Zhu Yingchun, each exploring the intricate relationship between humans, nature, and design. The pieces blend art, nature, and design, offering a unique perspective on how life forms, particularly insects, can inspire both aesthetic and philosophical reflections.
Notable works include Bugs’ Book, an exploration of the subtle beauty in the traces left by insects, and Bug’s Poetry, where the markings and sounds of insects are transformed into poetic expressions. The exhibition also includes Next to Bugs, which merges observational diaries and photographs of the unnoticed insect world, and The Classic of Bugs, a conceptual work that reimagines the patterns created by insect activities into artistic compositions reminiscent of ancient texts.
The exhibition invites visitors to engage with the natural world through an interactive lens, encouraging a deeper connection with the often overlooked lives of insects and their profound impact on design and creativity.
Through these works, Zhu Yingchun pushes the boundaries of design, transforming ordinary observations into extraordinary expressions that inspire reflection on life, survival, and the very essence of being.
